The Pirate Bay Now Lets Users Stream All Its Movies And TV Shows using Torrents Time

The world famous torrent website, The Pirate Bay has just transformed itself into the world’s largest streaming video portal. Thanks to the brand new Torrents-Time browser plug-in. The Pirate Bay now embeds “Stream It!” links next to all its video torrents, which allows you to play TV shows, movies, and any other video content directly in the same window you use to browse the torrent site without ever having to leave the site.

Earlier this week, Popcorn Time announced the launch of Popcorn Time Online, which is basically a new effort from the team that will allow users to stream their torrents directly from their web browser. You are prompted to install the plugin if you don’t have it yet, but otherwise the process starts right away. For the first time, it used peer-to-peer transfers rather than resource hungry HTTP.

Last evening, The Pirate Bay became the first general torrent index to utilize Torrents-Time technology. Torrents-Time is a browser plug-in for Windows and Mac that allows people to view torrents embedded in a webpage and without need for an external torrent client.

All users have to do is click the “Stream It!” button and it will launch a popup window. From there, it will then download content for it to begin buffering and you are good to go. From there a popup window appears containing a video player. Clicking the ‘play’ button delivers an advert to buy a VPN which warns that IP addresses are exposed.

Users at this point have the option to subscribe to a VPN for a period ranging from a day to a year, or if they prefer, they can click the ‘close’ button in the right hand corner of the advert to skip. At this point, in order to find other peers with the required content, the software makes use of the trackers, DHT and PEX.

Playback begins when enough peers have been found and a decent amount of content has been downloaded. The player is a basic but functional affair. Torrents Time includes automatic subtitles as well as Chromecast, Airplay, and DLNA support. The quality still hugely depends on the Internet connection and how popular the torrent is, as with any torrent streaming solution.

Torrents Time supports Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows 7 and up as well as OS X 10.8 and up. The developers are currently testing Safari and should arrive in a few weeks. As of now, Microsoft Edge is not supported but it may be added in the future. Any developer can potentially provide a similar experience to his or her users, as the code is available on GitHub. That’s exactly The Pirate Bay has done.

It appears that The Pirate Bay won’t be the only torrent website to feature this functionality either. According to TorrentFreak, leading torrent trackers Torrentproject.se, Videomax.is, Online.porntime.ws and the popular KickassTorrents will also add the Torrents-Time plug-in within the next few days.

“Our launch attracts so much attention that we work around the clock, both to handle the requests to be embedded on so many torrent sites and answering questions,” Torrents Time team boasted. “We are certain that in no time we’ll be embedded in all torrent sites who care to move-on with this evolution. We will allow everybody to watch any movie they wish from torrent sites who embed us, when they want, without having to store someone’s file on their hard disk. It’s ‘watching together’ or ‘Co-Watch’ technology, made possible by Torrents Time.”

The Pirate Bay Lost All Its Old Hydra Heads, Here Are The New Ones

Torrent website The Pirate Bay is back but not with its original ‘Hydra’ head

Earlier this week we had reported that The Pirate Bay had lost use of several of its ‘hydra’ domain names that millions of people have become accustomed to in 2015. The domain names, ThePirateBay.la, ThePiratebay.gd, ThePirateBay.mn and ThePirateBay.vg ThePirateBay.la, ThePiratebay.gd, ThePirateBay.mn and ThePirateBay.vg were suspended by their registrar, alongside several other TPB related domains.

TPB administrators had moved to these Hydra domain names because the original thepiratebay.se is locked under a litigation in Swedish courts . In fact, it was the fear of losing the original domain caused TPB to look for the hydra like domain name formation.

Readers and torrent lovers will remember that in December 2014, Swedish police raided a TPB data center and brought the TPB juggernaut to a stop. Following a raid, TPB stayed offline for 2 months . It was partially resurrected TPB went online in February 2015 however, the TPB admin had to look for other resources to back up TPB in case of another such raid/action by Swedish authorities.

As envisaged by TPB admin, in May, 2015, Swedish authorities moved to Swedish District Court for seizing of ThePirateBay.se, however, TPB moved in quickly and filed an appeal. In response TPB moved to a ‘hydra’ of new domains including .GS, .LA, .VG, .AM, .MN and .GD TLDs.

It is this reason that the TPB admin struck on the idea of a five headed Hydra for The Pirate Bay domains.  TPB made its old and trusted ThePirateBay.se domain the main head of Hydra and other domains its offshoots.

However, TPB’s ‘Hydra’ was short lived as the Registrar suspended 4 of its hydra domains last week. So where is The Pirate Bay today? Fortunately, its original domains are robust enough for now.

Most domains should already look familiar but for now it seems likely that of the standard domains ThePirateBay.SE will remain most stable and least likely to be taken down on short notice unless TPB loses its case in the Swedish court.

The TOR/Onion address uj3wazyk5u4hnvtk.onion should also be fine longer term but it’s hardly the most memorable set of digits for anyone to recall.

Out of the above, only  ThePirateBay.LA currently seems most vulnerable after being given ‘clienthold‘ status earlier in the week.

So after a year of domain hopping, TPB has had to return to its roots. It may have other domains under its sleeve but for the moment, thepiratebay.se seems the only stable option and known domain available to them.
