Official: Russia Bans Corn And Soybean Imports From The United States

The Russian Food and Safety Watchdog body Rosselkhoznadzor, has announced that corn and soybeans entering the country from the United States of America has been banned. The ban will take effect from February 15.
Russian officials recently held a phone conversation with their United States counterparts, expressing serious concern over continued shipments of grain products. The officials stressed that the shipments were unsafe for Russia. According to the RT English News, Russian officials made the decision on February 10, after becoming convinced that the products from the United States pose threat to consumers in the country.
Rosselkhoznadzor said American producers have failed to meet Russian biological standards, and that the immediate and the safest option now, according to Rosselkhoznadzor, is to ban these products from entering the country.
“Since the products shipped from the United States pose a real threat to Russia, and the U.S. guarantees are not valid, we reserve the right to introduce temporary restrictions on imports of U.S. corn and soybeans” Aleksey Alekseenko, spokesman for Rosselkhoznadzor said.
soybeans and corn seeds
Reports have suggested that the watchdog found dry rot in corn, and numerous weed seeds in soybeans imported into Russia from the United States. Alekseenko said some of the products entered Russia without proper certification.
According to statistics made public by Rosselkhoznadzor, in 2015, the body found 64 cases of bacterial contamination in soybeans imported from the United States shipments. Again, in January 2016, the body discovered four additional cases of bacterial contamination, including bacteria that are completely unknown in Russia.
Alekseenko was quoted as saying “We were dumfounded. Every batch of products should come with a microbiological certificate that guarantees food safety. It turns out the products are not being tested”.
However, United States officials have responded that the assessment of corn is done without checking microbiological conditions. Between January and October 2015, the United States exported 300,000 tons of soybeans to Russia. It’s reported that the possible cost of quarantined goods sent to Russia from the United States is around $188 million. Russia is said to be a major grain exporter, but the country specifically imports soy and limited amount of corn, mainly as seed; or to produce popcorn.
Meanwhile, in a televised address by the Russian Agriculture Minister, Alexander Tkachev, denials that the current import ban against the United States was politically motivated, have been made, countering speculation by some unknown sources. He said Russia took the decision on the basis of protecting its citizens from any harmful effects the products are likely to cause. Mr Tkachev also added that Russia is considering replacing the American products with those from Latin America.

But the France national television, France24 reports that since Western nations imposed sanctions on Russia over the country’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine in 2014, Russia has stopped importing grain and other agriculture products from Europe as a counter-measure.

Russia Is To become The World’s ‘Leading Exporter’ Of Non-GMO Foods That Are Based On ‘Ecologically Clean’ Production.

Russia is to become the world’s ‘leading exporter’ of non-GMO foods that are based on ‘ecologically clean’ production.

Putin is not  a fan of Monsanto or bioengineered anything, which is why, in a new address to the Russian Parliament last Thursday, he proudly outlined his plan to make Russia the world’s ‘leading exporter’ of non-GMO foods that are based on ‘ecologically clean’ production.
The Russian president harshly criticized food production in the United States, stating that Western food producers are no longer offering high quality, healthy, and ecologically clean food.
“We are not only able to feed ourselves taking into account our lands, water resources – Russia is able to become the largest world supplier of healthy, ecologically clean and high-quality food which the Western producers have long lost, especially given the fact that demand for such products in the world market is steadily growing,” Putin said in his address.
Reuters reports that it is likely Putin will use the country’s affinity for organic and sustainable farming as a centerpiece in his economic strategy.
“Ten years ago, we imported almost half of the food from abroad, and were dependent on imports. Now Russia is among the exporters. Last year, Russian exports of agricultural products amounted to almost $20 billion – a quarter more than the revenue from the sale of arms, or one-third the revenue coming from gas exports,” he added.

In Putin’s eyes, Russia is fully capable of supplying the domestic market with home-grown food by 2020.
This declaration comes just months after theKremlin decided to stop the production of GMO-containing foods, a triumph seen as a huge step forward in the international fight to expose and ruin Monsanto.
With this latest news, Russia has clearly established itself as a dominant force in the realm of organic farming.

Russia Decimates ISIS Oil Infrastructure with Biggest Bombing Raid in Decades, Missile Strikes

After the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Russian airliner, President Vladimir Putin doubled down on the destruction of ISIS. With the United States still refusing to coordinate airstrikes against ISIS, the Russians have chosen to step up their already blistering assault upon the Islamic State.
Over the last 48 hours, Russia has destroyed an Islamic State controlled oil refinery, a fleet of 500 ISIS controlled oil tankers used to smuggle oil out of Syria, and launched a massive sea based cruise missile attack.

On November 20, the warships of the Caspian Fleet launched 18 cruise missiles at seven targets in the provinces of Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo. All targets were hit successfully,” Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told Russian President Vladimir Putin.

There were 10 Russian warships that took part in the operation, six of which are in the Mediterranean. Over the past four days, Russian air forces have conducted 522 sorties, deploying more than 100 cruise missiles and 1,400 tons of bombs of various types, Shoigu said. He added that in a single strike on a target in Deir ez-Zor, utilizing multiple cruise missiles, more than 600 militants were killed.
Earlier in the week, the Russian air force undertook one the most massive, and complex heavy bomber missions in modern history. In a clear escalation of the air war, 25 Backfire, Bear, and Blackjack bombers went on a coordinated, long-range air raid against alleged ISIS forces in Syria.
All three types of Russian bombers can fly thousands of miles while carrying more than 20 tons of weaponry. Only the United States and Chinese possess similar heavy warplanes.
Russia is focused on destroying the terrorists’ economic base, having targeted 15 oil storage and refinery facilities as well as 525 oil trucks, according to Shoigu.

“We stopped supplies of 60,000 tons of oil per day to the black market and terrorists are losing $1.5 million daily,” Shoigu said.

The fact that the Islamic State is making mountains of cash selling oil indicates that they are selling the oil to some entity. It would seem like an easy calculation to determine exactly what person, group or state is buying this oil.
In fact, that information seems to be readily available.
According to journalist Pepe Escobar, writing for RT:
Turkish Socialist party member Gursel Tekin has established that Daesh’s smuggled oil is exported to Turkey by BMZ, a shipping company controlled by none other than Bilal Erdogan, son of “Sultan” Erdogan. At a minimum, this violates UN Security Council resolution 2170. Under the light of Putin’s message of going after anyone or any entity engaged in facilitating Daesh’s operations, Erdogan’s clan better come up with some really good excuses.

This information only barely scratches the nefarious relationship between The Islamic State and Turkey. According to respected international security scholar Nafeez Ahmed, writing in Insurge Intelligence:
A senior Western official familiar with a large cache of intelligence obtained this summer told the Guardian that “direct dealings between Turkish officials and ranking ISIS members was now ‘undeniable.’”

The same official confirmed that Turkey, a longstanding member of NATO, is not just supporting ISIS, but also other jihadist groups, including Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria. “The distinctions they draw [with other opposition groups] are thin indeed,” said the official. “There is no doubt at all that they militarily cooperate with both.”

Shoigu made note that the number of aircraft taking part in the Syrian anti-terror operation has recently been doubled, and stressed that Russia was coordinating with French forces in the region, per President Putin’s orders, even if the U.S. continued to refuse to cooperate with the Russian forces.

Russia says NO to GMO seeds; aims for food supply that’s ‘cleanest in the world’

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister recently announced that clean food is more important than being a slave to corporate greed -- way to go, Russia!

The future of agriculture in Russia won’t involve genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), says the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. In order to preserve the quality and integrity of its food supply, Russia plans to stick with growing methods that protect the soil and boost yields naturally, a move that Dvorkovich says will make his country’s food among the “cleanest in the world.”

Russia does not import GMOs like most of Europe currently does, nor does it grow them. Unlike the U.S., Russia has deep concerns about the safety of GMOs and has chosen to implement an extended moratorium on their use as it looks to other, safer technologies that don’t come with the risk of birth defects, endocrine disruption and cancer.

At the recent International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Dvorkovich told listeners that Russia has “chosen a different path,” and that the country “will not use these [GM] technologies” to boost agricultural production. The announcement coincides with statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin back in 2014 about the need to “protect” Russian citizens against GMOs.

“We need to properly construct our work so that it is not contrary to our obligations under the WTO [World Trade Organization],” Putin stated. “But even with this in mind, we nevertheless have legitimate methods and instruments to protect our own market, and above all citizens.”

Russian official: GMOs cause obesity and cancer and won’t be tolerated

This is the type of thing Americans should be demanding from their own elected leaders — an emphasis on protecting people rather than corporate profits — but, alas, the United States looks at GMOs much differently. Regardless of all the safety risks involved, America’s political puppets believe that GMOs should continue to dominate the national food market without even being labeled.

Meanwhile, Russia is leading the way in ridding its land of toxic poisons, stressing the need for agricultural policies that take a precautionary approach to controversial modalities like biotechnology that involve artificial gene splicing and toxic pesticides. The Vice President of Russia’s National Association for Genetic Safety, Irina Ermakova, had this to say recently about the issue:

“It has been proven that not only in Russia, but also in many other countries in the world, GMOs are dangerous. Consumption and use of GMOs obtained in such way can lead to tumors, cancers and obesity among animals.”

Prime Minister: If Americans want GMOs, fine, but Russians prefer organic

Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev also made global headlines last year when he announced that Russia would no longer import any GMO products, boldly proclaiming that Russia has more than enough land and resources to produce organic food safely and cleanly without the need for corporate-owned, bio-pirated GMOs seeds and their corresponding growth chemicals.

He stated, as quoted by RT.com, “If the Americans like to eat GMO products, let them eat it then. We don’t need to do that; we have enough space and opportunities to produce organic food.”

With all this in mind, the American media’s “Russia is evil” ruse becomes increasingly less convincing. Americans would be hard-pressed to ever have a politician stand up against GMOs like Russia’s leaders have, and yet they’re the “bad guys” and we’re the “good guys”? Perhaps it’s time for more Americans to reevaluate who’s really calling the shots in the “land of the free” and what their motivation might be to vilify a country that has chosen to reject bio-piracy and uphold true, free-market agriculture in the interest of public health and national sovereignty.

Mainstream Media Finally Admits Syrian Conflict is US-Russia Proxy War

The Syrian civil war rages on, displacing as many as 11 million people and killing nearly 300,000 as the conflict reaches into its fifth year. Syria, a longtime ally of Russia, has been receiving material support from the Eastern giant since the 1940s. As Anti-Media reported last month,
“Russia’s support for Syria dates back to 1946, when Russia helped consolidate Syria’s independence. The two countries mutually came to a diplomatic and military agreement in the form of a non-aggression pact, which was enacted on April 20, 1950. In this pact, Russia promised support to the newly-created Syria by helping to develop its military and by providing tactical support. Essentially, Russia and Syria have been cooperating for decades both militarily and economically, with Russia maintaining a naval base on the Syrian Mediterranean.”
Meanwhile, the United States also has its own designs on the region. In 2013, President Obama, along with John Kerry, attempted to stir up enough public support for a direct regime change in Syria, tugging at the American public’s freedom-spreading, democracy-loving heart strings. This attempt at a public overthrow of the Syrian government failed, with Americans responding with the massive #NoWarWithSyria protest movement. However, the drive for regime change didn’t end just because the government stopped talking about it. The CIA continued to arm basically any group willing to fight against the Assad government. The Pentagon also tried (but failed), to manufacture an American-allied army out of so-called moderate Syrian rebels at the cost of $500 million — who, on paper would oppose ISIS, but in reality work to oust Assad.
Russia, who has been a Syrian ally for decades, has remained steadfast in its support of the Assad regime — openly supplying weapons, aircraft, tanks, intelligence, and human resources in the form of military advisers. Russia also operates a naval base on Syria’s Mediterranean shores.
By any measure, this is a textbook proxy war between military powers vying to maintain their own economic interests in the Middle East. However, five years later, it seems the corporate media is finally “realizing” this shadow war for what it is. Over the weekend, The Washington Post ran an article titled, Did U.S. weapons supplied to Syrian rebels draw Russia into the conflict?” The article goes on to state:
“American antitank missiles supplied to Syrian rebels are playing an unexpectedly prominent role in shaping the Syrian battlefield, giving the conflict the semblance of a proxy war between the United States and Russia, despite President Obama’s express desire to avoid one.”
Then, on Monday, The New York Times published a piece titled “U.S. Weaponry Is Turning Syria Into a Proxy War With Russia.” The article admits that Syrian rebels are receiving abundant amounts of arms from the CIA, which are being used to fight the Russian-backed advance of Assad’s troops as he tries to take back Syria from the various rebel, Islamist, and terror groups that have overtaken much of countryside.
Understanding that the U.S. public has been war-weary since the Iraq War debacle, Obama was forced to change his rhetoric from regime change in Syria to fighting terrorism in the form of ISIS. The ample fear-mongering provided by ISIS brutes gave Obama the public support he needed to renew America’s seemingly permanent war in Iraq while giving him a back-door into Syria. The U.S. is currently bombing both countries, joined by a coalition of 62 partners, with Russia now officially throwing its hat into the bombing bonanza ring.
What should be clear is that the Unites States’ priority in the region is not to defeat ISIS, but instead to overthrow Assad. Clever rhetoric disguises America’s covert intentions, but the actions — and subsequent paper trail — paint a very clear picture of what is truly happening in Syria. WikiLeaks gives us some insight into the West’s designs on Syria, providing a window into the longtime campaign to oust Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad. A new book that analyzes diplomatic cables leaked by Chelsea Manning, The WikiLeaks Files: The World According to U.S. Empire, reveals the U.S. had a longstanding regime change policy in Syria that dates back long before the 2011 Arab Spring uprising that rocked the Middle East.
“A December 13, 2006 cable, ‘Influencing the SARG [Syrian government] in the End of 2006,’ indicates that, as far back as 2006 – five years before Arab Spring protests in Syria – destabilizing the Syrian government was a central motivation of U.S. policy. The author of the cable was William Roebuck, at the time chargé d’affaires at the U.S. embassy in Damascus. The cable outlines strategies for destabilizing the Syrian government. In his summary of the cable, Roebuck wrote:
‘We believe Bashar’s weaknesses are in how he chooses to react to looming issues, both perceived and real, such as the conflict between economic reform steps (however limited) and entrenched, corrupt forces, the Kurdish question, and the potential threat to the regime from the increasing presence of transiting Islamist extremists. This cable summarizes our assessment of these vulnerabilities and suggests that there may be actions, statements, and signals that the USG can send that will improve the likelihood of such opportunities arising.’”
These cables reflect an even older plan, which was detailed by Dan Sanchez at AntiWar.com:
“A veritable ‘carpe chaos’ manifesto was written in 1996 for a Washington think tank by David Wurmser, an Israel-first neocon (but I repeat myself) who would later play a key role in the Bush administration’s drive to the Iraq War: advising Dick Cheney in the Vice President’s Office, assisting John Bolton at the State Department, and fabricating fanciful ‘connections’ between Iraq and Al Qaeda at the Department of Defense.
In ‘Coping with Crumbling States: A Western and Israeli Balance of Power Strategy for the Levant,’ Wurmser made a case for ‘limiting and expediting the chaotic collapse’ of the Baathist governments in Iraq and Syria.”
Declassified documents from the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) suggest that ISIS is simply a convenient  — and dare we say welcome — side effect of the West’s destabilization agenda in Syria and Iraq.
proxy war
View the entire DIA document on Syria and ISIS on Judicial Watch
Sanchez continued to describe this plan:
“Then, after the 2011 ‘Arab Spring’ of popular uprisings reached Syria, ‘The Redirection’ went into overdrive. The US-led regional coalition (Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.) has been strenuously trying to overthrow the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad since at least 2012 by heavily sponsoring an insurgency led by jihadists including Al Qaeda and ISIS.”
The Wurmser plan seems to be materializing before our eyes in Syria.
What is hidden beneath all of this information is why the United States wants Assad ousted from power so badly. The most obvious excuse was his open abuse of human rights. And while this was the exact story-line given to the U.S. public from our “friends” in the media, the rhetoric comes off as empty at best, considering the U.S. actively supported Saudi Arabia’s brutal crackdown of Arab Spring protesters. We learned during the Arab Spring that our Gulf State allies were allowed to kill as many pro-democracy protesters as they wanted (hell, we even supplied them with the weapons to do it), while any non-allies were not. Muammar Gaddafi learned this the hard way. Meanwhile, Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, a Saudi national, is awaiting execution by crucifixion for the crime of protesting the Saudi government during the Arab Spring. But crucifying a guy for protesting is fine with the United States because Saudi Arabia is one of our closest allies in the region. Repression is alright as long as it’s our guysdoing it, right?
With the mythical human rights argument out of the way, the following question emerges: What is the true agenda causing the U.S.-Russia proxy war in Syria? In short, it is resources, power, and hegemony.
While nearly every war the U.S. involves itself in is sold as a humanitarian effort to either stop terrorism or spread democracy, studies show that countries with resources such as fossil fuels are over 100 times more likely to see foreign involvement in their internal conflicts. America is often the foreign force that arms and finances different sides of these conflicts. Coincidentally, in Syria, so is Russia.
While this geopolitical scenario is rather complex, it makes perfect sense. The U.S. has been trying to contain Russia since World War II, and those policies of containment are still in effect today. America enjoys its role as the only remaining superpower and has an interest in maintaining that hegemony. To make things perfectly clear, this is the main driver behind the Syrian Civil War.
Russia has somewhat of a monopoly over the gas supplies needed for Europe’s economy to operate. This gives Russia a semi-permanent economic base to fund its foreign policy agenda and maintain its own geopolitical strategy. The U.S. and its NATO allies want to end that monopoly, but in order to accomplish that, a pipeline must be built from the Sunni Gulf states, starting in Qatar, going through Jordan and Syria, and making its way into Turkey. From Turkey, the gas supplies will be distributed into Europe, effectively undermining Russia’s current arrangement with the European Union and placing its economy in a state of uncertainty. This would eventually lead to a flight of investment away from Russia and subsequently permanently damage what’s left of Russia’s resource-dependent economy. This explains Russia’s steadfast support for the Assad government. As The Guardian documented back in 2013:
“Assad refused to sign a proposed agreement with Qatar and Turkey that run a pipeline from the latter’s North field, contiguous with Iran’s South Pars field, through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and on to Turkey, with a view to supply European markets – albeit crucially bypassing Russia. Assad’s rationale was ‘to protect the interests of [his] Russian ally, which is Europe’s top supplier of natural gas.’”
Note the purple line which traces the proposed Qatar-Turkey natural gas pipeline and note that all of the countries highlighted in red are part of a new coalition hastily put together after Turkey finally (in exchange for NATO’s acquiescence on Erdogan’s politically-motivated war with the PKK) agreed to allow the US to fly combat missions against ISIS targets from Incirlik. Now note which country along the purple line is not highlighted in red. That’s because Bashar al-Assad didn’t support the pipeline and now we’re seeing what happens when you’re a Mid-East strongman and you decide not to support something the US and Saudi Arabia want to get done. (Map: ZeroHedge.com)

(Map: ZeroHedge.com)
Mnar Muhawesh of Mint Press News describes these pipeline plays in her article, “Migrant Crisis & Syria War Fueled By Competing Gas Pipelines”:
“Knowing Syria was a critical piece in its energy strategy, Turkey attempted to persuade Syrian President Bashar Assad to reform this Iranian pipeline and to work with the proposed Qatar-Turkey pipeline, which would ultimately satisfy Turkey and the Gulf Arab nations’ quest for dominance over gas supplies, who are the United State’s allies. But after Assad refused Turkey’s proposal, Turkey and its allies became the major architects of Syria’s civil war.”
It’s unfortunate that it took the corporate media all these years to “discover” that the United States and Russia are fighting a geopolitical proxy war in Syria. It remains to be seen how many more years and lost lives it will take for them to also “discover” that this proxy war is being fought over resources and power. It’s a sad state of affairs when the Western media provides humanitarian cover for the U.S. and NATO to fuel a brutal civil war — which has taken the lives of nearly 300,000 people — simply to create economic advantages for NATO states and allies while undermining stability in the Middle East — creating the greatest humanitarian catastrophe since World War II. And as millions of refugees continue to pour out of Syria into Europe and abroad, the NATO-dominated public of the E.U. and U.S. remain largely ignorant to the fact their own governments helped create the refugee crisis they so abhor.

80 Years Ago World's Most Revered Psychic Predicted Putin’s Role in Stopping WW3

During the great depression and great wars of the 20th century he made some amazing predictions about Russia that are proving incredibly true today.

If you have not heard of Edgar Cayce, he was an American mystic and is today known as one of the world’s most revered psychics and sometimes referred to as the Father of the New Age Movement.

Cayce would fall into a self induced trance in which he claimed he could commute with a higher power or intelligence. While this may seem absurd to most, he did accurately predict the stock market crash of 1929 and the preceding events that ultimately led to the first world wars.

Cayce also made some incredible claims about the future of global finance, world leadership, and the role Russia would play as a force for good in the coming global turmoil; which is what we see today.

In 1932 he was questioned about the political and economic trends in Europe and this is what he had to say about it...
Europe is as a house broken up. Some years ago there was the experience of a mighty peoples being overridden for the gratification and satisfaction of a few, irrespective of any other man’s right. That peoples are going through the experience of being born again, and is the thorn in the flesh to many a political and financial nation in Europe, in the world… Q. What is the name of that nation referred to? A. Russia. (3976-8)” [Source]
Today this sounds strangely accurate. Much of the world is under the thumb of the Western elite but Russia seems to be the last line of defense. With the U.S. and its allies funding and arming ISIS, a rabid mad dog, in its efforts to bring in a one world government at the behest of the bankers and their partners, Russia most certainly seems to be a light in the dark.

The conflict in Syria

In 2013, the U.S. was trying desperately to invade Syria using a phony chemical weapons scare attack to justify that invasion . Putin prevented US involvement by threatening to intervene militarily in the conflict. Sadly, this conflict as progressed into a state of insanity and incomprehensible turmoil today.

This is what Cayce said about current events;
“In Russia there comes the hope of the world, not as that sometimes termed of the communistic, or Bolshevik, no; but freedom, freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man! The principle has been born. It will take years for it to be crystallised, but out of Russia comes again the hope of the world.”
(Edgar Cayce, 1944, No. 3976-29)
While this may sound absurd, because the Russian government is far from guiltless, in the present context it is a formidable defense against what the last stages of a dictatorial one world government that has been many generations in the making.

Despite the West and its allies pretending not to be able to stand against ISIS, Putin explains what is really going on, which is very uncommon for a political leader to do since they generally prefer to keep the people completely in the darkness in regards to these matters.

As many of yous know, or at least should know, Russia recently just about bombed ISIS out of Syria. While the U.S., NATO and allies pretend that ISIS is unstoppable, Russia in just a few hours did more than they have in years. Even a US Congresswoman asked the president why Russia bombing ISIS is a bad thing?

Cayce also made some very important remarks on the United States future moral decay;

What is the spirit of America? Most individuals proudly boast “freedom.” Freedom of what? When ye bind men’s hearts and minds through various ways and manners, does it give them freedom of speech? Freedom of worship? Freedom from want?…In the application of these principles…America may boast, but rather is that principle being forgotten… and that is the sin of America. (3976-29) Reading 3975-15, given on January

So did Edgar Cayce foresee Putin’s role in standing up against the Western elites plan to overtake the world?
Cayce also predicted the possibility of a THIRD World War. He spoke of strifes arising…”in Libya, and in Egypt, in Ankara, and in Syria; through the straits around those areas above the Persian Gulf.” [Source]
Whether or not these predictions are true at all all, it's important for all of us to realize that Putin, like any politician has an agenda, so we should not give him or anyone else blind faith and obedience. But, right now, he is fighting against an evil. However, it is more important for us, as individuals, to become actively engaged in our societies and the world at large. We all bear the responsibility of creating a better world.

You can watch an insightful answer from Putin to an American BBC reporters question below:

Russian Govt Completely Bans GMOs in Food Production

By Anthony Gucciardi via Natural News

Russia has just announced a game-changing move in the fight against Monsanto’s GMOs, completely banning the use of genetically modified ingredients in any and all food production.
In other words, Russia just blazed way past the issue of GMO labeling and shut down the use of any and all GMOs that would have otherwise entered the food supply through the creation of packaged foods (and the cultivation of GMO crops).

“As far as genetically-modified organisms are concerned, we have made decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” Deputy PM Arkady Dvorkovich revealed during an international conference on biotechnology.
This is a bold move by the Russian government, and it sits in unison with the newly-ignited global debate on GMOs and the presence of Monsanto in the food supply. It also follows the highly-debated ruling by the World Health Organization that Monsanto’s glyphosate-based Roundup is a ‘probable carcinogen.’

But I also want to put it into perspective for you. If this announcement were to be made in the United States, for example, it would mean a total transformation of the food manufacturing industry. But in Russia, the integration of GMOs is not close to the same level as in the U.S.
We know that, in the United States, 90 plus percent of staple crops like corn are genetically modified, along with 94 percent of soybeans and 94 percent of cotton. A ban on GMOs in food production would radically change the entire food supply. In Russia, however, the country is much more poised for a GMO food revolution. [1]
As RT reports:
“According to official statistics the share of GMO in the Russian food industry has declined from 12 percent to just 0.01 percent over the past 10 years, and currently there are just 57 registered food products containing GMO in the country. The law ordering obligatory state registration of GMO products that might contact with the environment will come into force in mid-2017.”
President Vladimir Putin believes that he can keep GMOs out of the country, even while staying in compliance with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) commandments. In a past meeting addressing the members of the Board of the Russian Federation Council he stated:

“We need to properly construct our work so that it is not contrary to our obligations under the WTO. But even with this in mind, we nevertheless have legitimate methods and instruments to protect our own market, and above all citizens.”
