Fox News Uses 5-Year-Old Clip To Portray Refugees As Terrorists

During a recent segment of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver pointed out that Fox News was misrepresenting old footage, and using it to paint refugees as terrorists.

The footage that they used actually wasn’t very threatening at all, it just showed a train loaded with people chanting “Allahu akbar” or “god is great” in Arabic. However, the caption for the story read “Terrorists inbound?”, and the Fox reporters said that this was footage of refugees that were on their way from Syria.

During the broadcast, one reporter said, “We’re not saying that any of those people are terrorists or in any way affiliated with a terror group, but it does highlight just how many of these refugees who are fleeing violence in Iraq and Syria are Muslim.”

However, as John Oliver pointed out on Last Week Tonight, the footage was actually old and had been uploaded to YouTube back in 2010.

During the segment Oliver said: “OK, first, you don’t get to claim that you’re not calling those people terrorists when your lower third says, ‘Terrorists Inbound?’ question mark. If you’re really not saying they’re terrorists, maybe change that to something more accurate, like ‘People Take Train,’ or ‘Some Wear Hats, Others Less So. And second, describing that as a new video that sheds light on the migrant crisis is a little misleading, because in researching this story, we found a version of that same video uploaded onto YouTube back in 2010, well before this migrant crisis even began. And, if you are going to use misleading, old footage to make people frightened of Muslims, why stop there? Just go the whole way and use a clip from True Lies.”

Banksy Dismantling His “Dismaland Themepark” To Build Shelter For Refugees In France

Banksy will be taking down the materials used to build his “Dismaland Themepark” and donating them to refugee shelters in France where the materials are needed.

A message recently posted on the website said:

“Coming soon … Dismaland Calais. All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available.”

As the name implies, much of the art in the park was dismal, and many of the attractions are as well. They also contain Banky’s signature activist touch, calling attention to real global issues that are often avoided by mainstream culture.

The park was located at Weston-super-Mare, an abandoned swimming resort in south-west England.

Banksy described the park as “a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism” and mentioned that it was not suitable for children.

After the living art exhibit ended last week, Banksy decided to donate the materials to help out the refugees and to create a conversation about the refugee crisis.

The refugee camp that the materials will be donated to is known as the “Jungle”, which is a massive tent city located in the Calais’ port. Many of the migrants staying there are awaiting passage to the UK.

The Syrian refugee crisis, which is actually a symptom of a much deeper crisis, namely the crisis of war that governments and radical militants impose on the planet, has been making headlines across the globe but few people have any tangible solutions.

An Egyptian billionaire named Naguib Sawiris is in talks to purchase two of uninhabited islands for the refugees, and possibly create them their own ‘country’ instead of returning to a war-torn region which is far away from being a habitable and healthy environment any time soon.

There are more than 220,000 refugees who have been forced out of their own homes and country, imagine this was you and your family. It's unreal if you truly consider it. But Sawiris, who made his fortune operating a mobile communications company, plans on proving shelter for the people.

Sawiris is looking to purchase an island for $100 million which, despite being a huge sum of money, is not astronomical for the multi billionaire.

Let's just hope his intentions are as pure as they seem. Right now, anything seems better for the refugees than risking their lives daily to survive and get away from this insane war.
