Martin Shkreli Poised To Increase Price Of ANOTHER Pharmaceutical Drug By 99,900%!

This time, ‘Pharma Bro’ Shkreli intends to hike the price of a drug used to treat Chagas disease, a parasitic infection that can cause potentially lethal heart problems.

When it comes to the most despised, Martin Shkreli is up there with Monsanto and the Rockefellers.
Earlier this year, the ‘Pharma Bro’ made headlines when he hiked the price of Daraprim, a decades-old drug used to treat toxoplasmosis, by 5,000%.
After public outcry, Shkreli promised to lower the price of the drug which is heavily relied upon by some AIDS and cancer patients but later reneged on that vow.
Now, the greedy CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals is poised to put profits over people again. The New York Times reports that Shkreli is likely to increase the price of another decades-old drug used to treat Chagas disease, a parasitic infection that can cause potentially lethal heart problems.
Commented Dr. Sheba Meymandi, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and director of a Chagas treatment center at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center:
“It’s caused a lot of angst in the Chagas community. Everyone’s in an uproar.”
And for good reason. Shkreli is pissing off a number of organizations that supply drugs for neglected diseases with his plan to take advantage of a federal program that encourages companies to develop potentially life-saving pharmaceuticals.
The program was created by Congress in 2007 and awards vouchers that can be sold to other companies for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Shkreli has purchased a majority share in KaloBios Pharmaceuticals, which allows him to apply for the exclusive right to sell benznidazole, which is used to treat Chagas in South America.
At present, the drug costs as little as $50 and as much as $100 for two months of treatment. It has never been approved for sale in the US but is provided free to patients by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on an experimental basis.
If benznidazole gets the FDA’s approval, KaloBios will have exclusive rights to sell it in the United States for at least five years.
Shkreli’s plan is to hike its price similar to that of hepatitis C drugs, which cost $60,000 to nearly $100,000 for a course of treatment. That could be as much as a 99,900% increase in cost!
Between 3,000 and 7,000 people would require treatment for acute infection each year in the United States.
According to Dr. Meymandi, the astronomical price increase will be extremely problematic because “The people with Chagas, for the most part, are poor” and many lack insurance.
His intentions seem perfectly clear to those affected by the injustice.

“The only reason for him to do this is to get the voucher and turn around and sell it,” said Dr. Caryn Bern, a Chagas disease specialist at the University of California in San Fransisco.
Shkreli’s sick plan deserves to be exposed. If you agree, please share this article to raise awareness and comment your thoughts below.

Greedy Pharma CEO Explodes as Competitor Offers Alternative $1 AIDS Pill

Pharma CEO Martin Shkreli’s plans to hold patients hostage just went up in smoke. The world rejoices.

A pharmaceutical company called Imprimis Pharmaceuticals Inc announced on Thursday that they are offering an alternative to Daraprim  the drug whose 5,550 percent price gouge caused nationwide outrage — and intend to sell it for $1 a pill.
Martin Shkreli, also known as “Pharma Bro,” the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals who purchased the rights to the drug used in HIV and AIDS treatments and skyrocketed the price to $750 overnight, quickly became the poster child for big pharmaceutical greed. The previous price for Daraprim was $13 a pill before Shkreli’s much-maligned price hike.
As US Uncut reported last week, the news of Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign donating Shkreli’s $2,700 donation to medical research incited a furious reaction from Shkreli.
Imprimis generally develops compounded medications for prescription drugs that do not meet the needs of a patient, Yahoo News reported.  They will now be offering a compounded formula of Turing’s drug in capsule form.
Beyond Daraprim, the company also announced that they plan to continue creating compounds of drugs that are sold far above their actual cost.
The company also offers massive discounts on their drugs for those in need, like Medicaid recipients, sometimes as low as $1 for an entire bottle.
The one drawback of what Imprimis is doing is that their formulation is not FDA approved. However, it can still be legally sold through a doctor’s prescription.
Even though, Pyrimethamine is generic, meaning anyone could make a competitor for Daraprim, it was just that nobody had, since it was a niche drug and not destined to be a big money maker.
If Imprimis wanted to get FDA approval it would reportedly take years and millions of dollars, which would make it more difficult for the company to keep their prices affordable.
US Uncut reached out to Shkreli for comment. His only response to us was “lol.”

WATCH: Ex-Hedge Funder Who Hiked AIDS Pill by 5,500% Says Drug ‘Still Underpriced’

The 32-year-old pharmaceutical CEO admits the AIDS drug 'costs almost nothing to make' then defends charging $75,000 per month. This man preys on the sick. Capitalism kills.

If you haven't heard of Martin Shkreli by now, the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals which is going viral all across the internet, allow me to inform you about what is just a small symptom of a much MUCH larger problem we have in society today.

Shkreli recently purchased Daraprim, which is a drug used to treat Toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by a parasite that can cause blindness and brain infection for those with weakened immune systems. It is often used for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment or people plagued with AIDS.

Before Shrkeli came along, a 30-pill bottle of Daraprim cost roughly $405. But now, that cost has skyrocketed to $22,500 for the same bottle! Which is an overnight increase of 5500 percent!! What's even more mind boggling than this, is this guy still has the audacity to say the drug is still underpriced!?!?

Shrkeli claims this is so that the profits can be used to create a better version of the drug but the fact of the matter is what was once a common affordable treatment for millions and millions of people will now cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In a joint letter from the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association, Turing’s price hike was branded as “unjustifiable for the medically vulnerable patient population,” and who could disagree??

Shkreli, however, is just a symptom of the for profit medical system we have which is backward, and would be viewed with disgust by any advanced or civilized race of beings.

According to a recent investigation by presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, Valeant Pharmaceuticals increased the price of two heart drugs — Isuprel and Nitropress — by 525 percent and 212 percent in the same fashion, as soon as they were acquired. The antibiotic, Doxycyclene, went from $20 per bottle to $1,849 per bottle within a six-month period!

This is absolutely not sustainable, but while Shkreli deserves to be interrogated and held accountable, he is just a small player in a much bigger inhumane game that places profit above human life.
