New documents
show that Michigan's governor, Rick Snyder, supplied his own government
workers with clean, bottled water while the residents of Flint were
being poisoned by lead-contaminated city water.
Snyder's administration, and indeed Snyder himself, have acted as if they had no idea the dangerous water was poisoning the residents of Flint, Michigan, but new reports continue to add up, implicating both Snyder and members of his administration in a crime.
To knowingly pump dirty water into a city's pipes, watching them shower in it, bathe their kids in it and drink it, for 10 months before declaring a state of emergency; this is what Rick Snyder has done.
"It appears the state wasn’t as slow as we first thought in responding the Flint Water Crisis," said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. "Sadly, the only response was to protect the Snyder administration from future liability and not to protect the children of Flint from lead poisoning. While residents were being told to relax and not worry about the water, the Snyder administration was taking steps to limit exposure in its own building."
These "steps" are highlighted in the released document which highlights conversation between employees of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) and other state officials regarding in-house "concern about Flint's WQ [water quality]" that occurred at a time in 2015 when many residents still had no idea their public water had been contaminated by lead. The document at issue—dated January 7, 2015—is an administrative order showing the state had decided to provide bottled-water coolers "positioned near water fountains" in state offices so that workers could "choose which water to drink."
It was 10 months later than a state of emergency was declared.
