Kellogg’s Is Causing Cancer, Diabetes, And Inflammation In Children. Use These Healthy Cereal Swaps Instead

Just over a year ago General Mills introduced a new product into the cereal market targeted at health-conscious consumers. Cheerios Protein is a spin on their classic Cheerios made with whole grains and lentils. At first, reviews were favourable, but the Huffington Post stated that it tasted like a more sweetened and aggressively flavored Cheerios.

Ads boasted that the cereal would offer ‘long-lasting energy’ without a sugar crash. But early in November, the Center for Science in the Public Interest sued General Mills on the basis that there was very little extra protein in Cheerios Protein compared to the original and about 17 times more sugar!
So why then did General Mills feel like it could market this product as a health food when it was really a bowl of carbs and refined sugar? Simple: because history shows that it works. For over a century, brands have been using health-related claims and marketing gimmicks to sell breakfast cereals full of sugar – and successfully at that.

But recently, brands are finding it more difficult to convince consumers because they are more and more becoming better informed and rightly skeptical. Consumers are now more concerned with where their food comes from and what goes into making the products that they purchase.

Best Cereal Alternatives

We all know about the dangers of consuming refined sugar, so why put ourselves at risk by consuming these processed bowls of sugar and carbs? Here are some of our favorite ways to start our day.

Breakfast Salad

Yup, breakfast salad. As unconventional as it might sound, this is one of the best things you can give your body first thing in the morning. The greens in this salad are full of vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants that make our bodies healthy and function to the best of their abilities. But eating the greens on their own is not enough unfortunately.

What makes this salad so good for you is the inclusion of egg. All the nutrients in the leaves are great, but if they’re consumed without a healthy fat, you miss out on a lot of them. So adding an egg to your salad in the morning is just what your body needs. Here’s our favorite recipe for a great breakfast salad.

Coconut And Cinnamon Muesli Breakfast Bowl

This is a great alternative to cold cereals and those unhealthy instant oatmeals. This breakfast bowl is packed with antioxidants and protein, and unlike Cheerios Protein, it will actually keep you going all day and it is void of any refined sugars. It’s a tasty breakfast full of whole ingredients and everything your body needs to get you through the day. Get the recipe here.

Need some more alternatives to cereal for your morning meal? No problem, I’ve got it right here. You’ll never get bored of these breakfast alternatives, and you’ll be feeding your body what it needs and not what will make you sick. Enjoy!
