Typhoon Etau floods send hundreds of Tons of contaminated Fukushima water into ocean

Tropical storm/typhoon Etau has ravaged Japan and sent hundreds of tons of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean, according to a Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) spokesperson but the company claims this poses no risk to the environment.

Tepco has been storing very large amounts of contaminated water to cool the melted fuel in the damaged reactors that suffered from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

"For heavy rains, Tepco has standard procedures to install rainwater guttering on the upper part of the water storage tanks and also to construct dikes around groups of tanks, which is applied to all of the recently added storage tanks." Despite this statement, it would appear that Tepco was not as readily prepared to deal with the floods as they would have liked everyone to believe.

Unfortunately this has impacted tens of thousands of people who have been forced to flee their homes. Japan has been in a state of emergency.
