Google are Using These Balloons To Bring Cheap Internet To An Entire Country


As we all know there are parts of the world where internet signal cannot be found. But Google has an ambitious plan to remedy this.

Through the utilization of high-altitude balloons, Project Loon began in 2013 to help bring internet to people despite their location and intends to be a revolutionary game changer for the world at large.

In July 2015, the Sri Lankan government made a deal with Google to bring broadband Internet access to the entire country, which is 21 million people in total.
  

"The entire Sri Lankan island — every village from Dondra to Point Pedro — will be covered with affordable high speed Internet using Google Loon's balloon technology," IT and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera said in an interview with the India Times
