In what Edward Snowden has dubbed "the biggest leak in the history of data journalism"more than 11 million files, known as "the Panama Papers" have been leaked which expose the biggest offshore tax haven scam to date.
Journalists from more than 80 different countries
have been reviewing the files which were leaked from the database of
Mossack Fonseca, which is the world's fourth largest offshore law firm.Biggest leak in the history of data journalism just went live, and it's about corruption. https://t.co/dYNjD6eIeZ pic.twitter.com/638aIu8oSU— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) April 3, 2016
Among the startling revelations is a multi billion dollar network of secret deals and loans which is alleged to lead to Russian president Vladimir Putin and implicates some of the biggest names in politics. In fact, the list of people tied to this illegal offshore network include about 140 politicians from more than 50 countries, including 72 current or former heads of state!
What is especially interesting about this leak though, is it does not implicate any major player from America, despite Mossack Fonseca having intimate ties to the U.S. Instead, the papers shine a light on America's global rivals; which include Russian president Vladimir Putin, Chinese president Xi Jinping and Syrian president Bashar Assad. None are directly involved, but are indirectly through associates which demonstrate a potential connection. This probably would seem far less strange if at least one heavy weight from America were named, but nothing.
This is not to say that Western politicians or allies weren't named at all. British prime minister David Cameron has been connected to the illegal offshore scam through his father, Ian Cameron, who has evaded taxes for more than 30 years. Other big players include the President of Argentina Mauricio Macri, former prime minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili, Iceland's prime minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, king Salman bin Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, president of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and others.
This gigantic revelation is coming to light at the same time as an equally important scam — the largest bribery racket within the oil industry in known history — is being exposed.
This leads any thinking researcher to contemplate what precisely is going on here since the mainstream media is broadcasting these revelations with such vigor and intensity, particularly about the indirect links to Vladimir Putin who is gearing up for reelection. Perhaps the house of cards is really finally falling? Or is there another ulterior motive for this leak, which seems bizarrely strange when you consider how not a single American politician or family has been implicated when the organization in question has a history of doing business with America. Could this story actually be meant to overshadow the Unaoil bribery racket which seems to now be taking a backseat? It is important to always ask questions and consider different possibilities without clinging to anything that cannot be proven.
It is also interesting to note that international football giant FIFA is implicated in the offshore scam as well. This is interesting because Russia is set to hold the world cup in 2018. The world cup is the single largest international sporting event on the planet. Not only is it sure to attract a lucrative amount of investment to Russia, but also highlight the countries leadership and way of life overall. In other words, this event is not good for the Western elite. Russia is the biggest country in the world and is becoming more and more attractive to increasingly disgruntled Westerner youth, for their stance on rejecting GMOs and other policies. (This doesn't mean Putin is not corrupt, or that any of the leaders mentioned in this leak aren't guilty of corruption)
Tax evasion by the super rich is a major problem for the simple fact that we, the common people, are forced to pay by threat of imprisonment, and most of the time when we do they steal our money anyways. Then, on top of that, they don't even pay taxes themselves and then we wonder why we can't get affordable health care or new jobs? This is inexcusable and we should all be outraged, but not lose sight of bigger events taking place in the background.
Right now, because of these leaks, the Icelandic population is engaged in what appears to be the largest protest (based on the ratio of the total population to protestors) ever recorded. They are demanding the prime minister to step down.
Whatever may be going on here, one thing I believe to be certain; the power in the people is more powerful than the people in power!Seriously did not see this many people protesting during the 2008 economic collapse. #cashljós #panamapapers pic.twitter.com/CJNo7fJEoR— Anonymous (@AnonyMobLife) April 4, 2016
