Get a Good Night’s Sleep with Melatonin

An enormous number of people have trouble sleeping. In fact, millions of people around the world suffer from chronic sleep disorder. Studies have actually shown that roughly 80% of the people who call the doctor’s office, have some type of sleeping disorder.

Yoga is a great natural way to help improve sleep, as is exercise. People, who exercise or practice yoga frequently actually live longer, have less stress and are more relaxed and healthy overall. Meditation is another great way to calm us down and improve our prospects for returning to natural healthy sleeping patterns.

Insufficient sleep not only wears us down, but it also seems to perpetuate itself through a vicious cycle in which we develop a pattern that culminates into insomnia.
To remedy this, it is important that we replace the bad habits we have created for ourselves with good ones (as mentioned above) that align with day and night, because melatonin, which is a hormone produced by the pineal gland that helps control your sleep and wake cycles, is produced at night time.

WHAT IS MELATONIN?

The pineal gland is a tiny gland located in the center of the brain. Its function is for producing hormones which affect the brain. Two very important hormones which are connected with the pineal gland are serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin is produced during the day time, and keeps us awake. It is sometimes referred to as the "happy hormone".

The other is melatonin, which is just as important, because it takes us into the dream world and believed by some to be the source of DMT, a neurochemical secretion which can alter our consciousness. It is secreted during the night time, when it is dark (this is why you should not sleep with the lights on since it can disrupt this process). Melatonin also helps to strengthen the immune system.

MELATONIN PACKED FOOD

Aside from exercise or yoga, foods which contain this hormone include sour cherries, walnuts, rice, corn, ginger and peanuts, among others. You can also find this in supplements, just make sure you aren't buying products that have unnecessary additives.

Incorporate them into your diet, along with the other changes mentioned in this article and you should begin to start seeing some dramatic changes.
