More people have died from selfies than shark attacks this year!

Although this sounds like the punch line of a bad joke, this is very real, very serious, and undoubtedly tragic.

According to Mashable, more people have died this year from taking selfies than from shark attacks.

Recently, a tourist named Hideto Ueda fell down a flight of stairs and killed himself while trying to take a selfie at the Taj Mahal. 4 other deaths were also caused by falling. Another instance a person was hit by a train!

This has gotten so bad, that some parks have reportedly outlawed selfies! In July, the Russian Interior Ministry actually released a brochure, warning that trying to capture the perfect selfie "could cost you your life."
