In September of 2009 National Geographic premiered a show about a motorcycle gang of animal rights activists, called Rescue Ink Unleashed.
Comprised of what the National Geographic describes as "ex-firefighters, bodybuilders, hot rod mechanics and bouncers," Rescue Ink is a one of a kind crew that has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to animal abuse and "does whatever necessary within the means of the law — that's what our lawyers tell us to say — to fight abuse and neglect of all kinds."
Whether it be rescuing dogs from illegal fighting rings or inhumane and irresponsible owners, helping former veterans financially to take care of their dogs or confronting those who treat our animal friends badly face to face, amongst other things, Rescue Ink is a unique organization that demonstrates the good guys can be bad asses too!
Meet some of the gang;
Joe Panz is the founder of Rescue Ink and is the soul of the organization. A true friend and lover to animals, particularly oppressed animals, Joe has lived a life in the streets that has given him knowledge and experience that no animal rights organization can teach in regards to the particular places and people they deal with.
After being betrayed by people he thought he could trust in the past, which nearly cost him his life (he has the bullet hole in his chest to prove it), Joe realized during this time, that the only one he could truly rely on was his dog, Blackjack, a 120 pound Rottweiler which is most likely the most profound experience he has ever had with animals, or possibly in life at large, and why he is so passionate and fiercely loyal towards them today.
Holding a black belt in both Jiu Jitsu and Karate, Toby Franks is a protector of all animals who are unjustly oppressed, but has a particular love and connection with feral cats of which he has literally saved hundreds from back alleys and neighborhoods most people wouldn't even dare step in.
He is described as being "soft spoken" but a man of action who is not afraid to confront anyone to save animals in need.
Mike is passionate about helping all beings who are victimized by bullies, both human and animal alike.
Once a former bodybuilder, Mike today is an honest police officer trying to make the world a better place.
After losing both his parents as a young child, Al Chernoff developed an incredibly powerful bond with animals who he views as being his extended family. A former Army Infantry Scout Unit Sergeant who served for more than 10 years, Al has been involved in many different forms of animals activism for more than 2 decades now, helping sea mammals, reptiles, birds, cats, dogs and everything in between.
Although he enjoys the company of animals more than people, Al finds friendship and comradeship amongst the Rescue Ink crew.
Jimmy is a former Marine Sargeant who has worked with bomb dogs world wide, and once held the world record for bench pressing more than 1,000 pounds! Yes, I said 1,000 pounds!
And he enjoys confronting anyone who treats animals badly. That about sums up all you need to know about "The Bull".
